During the week, we had many visitors join us to read to our students. We had theme dress days to promote school spirit and togetherness. We had many police officers and other members of the community join us to read too. It was wonderful having staff and many visitors come to read and promote a love of reading in our young students!

Thursday – “One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish”: Wear bright colored clothing.

Friday – Cat in the Hat Day!!! Wear Red, White, and Blue

Read and Play Night: 3/14

Our Parents’ Club hosted a read and play night with the following activities: Book Fair, Reading Station with the therapy dog, and relay activities in the gym.

Spring Book Fair: 3/12-3/16

From March 13- 17, we held our Spring Book Fair. Students enjoyed shopping for books in the Elementary Gym. Many made purchases and all students received a free book from the Parents’ Club. Thank you to our librarians, Laurie Goodman and Stephanie Cavileer, who worked hard to make good book selections and run the Book Fair with Parents’ Club. Family Night at the Book Fair was on 3/14. This allowed parents, relatives, and friends to check out our Book Fair and make purchases. I would also like to thank our Parents’ Club for their support by volunteering for this great fundraising event. Our parents use this event to support our field trips.

St. Patrick’s Day: 3/17

Many of our teachers had students use a STEM Design Concept to build Leprechaun Traps to catch those sneaky leprechauns on 3/16 just before the weekend of St. Patrick’s Day. Traps had “gold coins”, candy and other goodies to lure leprechauns. Many traps were turned over and those leprechauns pulled some good pranks in classrooms; however none were caught!

Miss Cullen’s MD K-1 class made Leprechaun Traps and Leprechaun Shawn Braue showed up.

Dental Assemblies- 3/19 and 3/20

On 3/19 at Elementary and 3/20 at Primary, Chelsey from Brayces came to present four assemblies on Dental Health. Our students enjoyed watching a video and puppet presentation on the importance of dental hygiene and care. All students received free pencils and toothbrushes! They laughed throughout the assembly and got the message that nobody wants a mouthful of rotten teeth like King Cavity. Thank you Brayces for thinking of us and giving back to the EHT community.

Character Education Lessons: Forest Friends

These lessons, presented by Atlantic Prevention Counseling Resources, t6each the students character education themes and skills using a cast of forest characters. This month our first graders enjoyed these lessons. These lessons support and reinforce the lessons our counselors teach each month.

On 3/27, Davenport held its first STEAM FAIR. This event included: a Science/STEM Fair, Davenport’s Singers performing, an Art Show, and Makeer Space Activities. Kim Pettit, our Gifted and Talented Teacher set up and facilitated this major event along with Music teachers, Melissa Schenck and Marissa Weatherby, and Media Specialist, Stephanie Cavileer. The Art teacher, Cathy Frisch, had art displayed through the main hallway for all to enjoy.

We had 1st grade students create some amazing projects using the scientific method. All received award certificates regarding their field of study. Our 2nd and 3rd graders competed in categories against each other. They had to present their projects to judges and address questions about their hypothesis and experimental outcomes. They wore their finest clothes and presented like professionals. These budding scientists and engineers were amazing. The evening ended with awards in varying categories and pictures for The Current and other publications.

Our judges included teachers from other schools and Davenport; as well as many volunteer students from the middle and high schools. It was an AWESOME night here at the Davenport with a celebration of all things STEAM!

Report Cards were issued on 3/23rd

Spring Concert, Davenport Singers and 3rd Grade Choir

Our Spring Concert will take place on April 12th with our 3rd graders performers at 2:00 pm. Mrs. Scheck will lead this group and our Davenport Singers with rehearsed throughout the month for the STEAM FAIR performance. They will continue on into April and May with practices to prepare for the upcoming Choral Festival in Cape May. A huge thank you to Mr. DellaBarca for supporting our entrance fees into the Choral Festival. With his donation, our Davenport students will have a great opportunity to showcase their talents and see the talents of other Elementary Choirs in Elementary Schools in South Jersey.

Spring Parties 3/28

Our Spring Parties took place at 2:00 pm on 3/28. Our students enjoyed Egg Hunts with their classmates. Then, many returned to the classrooms for treats, crafts, and fun games. Thank you to teachers and parents for making these celebrations both about learning and fun while spending time together!
