Principal's Monthly News Letter

C. J. Davenport School Complex

Holiday Shop

Our Parents’ Club hosted a Holiday Shop during the week of December 4th -8th. Family Night was held on 12/6 for our grandparents, parents, siblings, and other relatives to join us for festive purchases. Our students love being able to shop for family, friends, and pets. It helps them to get into the holiday spirit and find memorable presents for their family members.

Strategic Planning

Our school district held its second night of Strategic Planning on 12/4 in Davenport’s Elementary Cafeteria. There was a good turn out by our school community with many ideas shared for future planning.

Renaissance Fundraiser Night

On 12/4, Davenport’s Renaissance Committee sponsored a night at Chido Burrito from 4:30-8:00 pm. A percentage of proceeds went to our school’s Renaissance Team.

Report cards were issued on 12/15/17. We held parent conferences from December 12-15, 2017. Our teachers were able to visit with parents and share report card grades at that time. I received positive feedback from parents. We always enjoy discussing academics with our parents and sharing the progress their child/children have made. I am always available to speak with parents about any concerns about their child, our curricular programs or our school in general.

Davenport was strong in song and spirit during the month of December. Our annual holiday concerts were held at various times throughout the month.

  • December 6th -1st grade and MD classes

  • December 21st - Kindergarten

  • December 19th and 20th - 2nd and 3rd grades

  • December 20th - Preschool

Well over 1,500 grandparents, parents and family members attended all of the shows and joined in our festive spirit and celebrations.  I especially would like to thank our music teachers, Mrs. Missy Schenck and Mrs. Weatherby for organizing these wonderful school events for the holidays. It is also important to thank our Preschool and Kindergarten teachers who prepare for the concerts on their own. We held 10 holiday concerts over 2 weeks, so our building was bustling with our school community, great music, and a lot of movement.

I would also like to recognize and thank our special area teachers for their support and assistance with decoration and technology; as well as supervising and assisting during practices and rehearsals. The decorations were sensational. Ms. Frisch and Mrs. Pfaeffli transformed each our stages into Winter Wonderlands! Mrs. Harte, Mrs. Schenck, and Mrs. Goodman did a wonderful job setting up and running the technology needed to organize the students for their practices and shows. Everyone came together to create great shows and celebrate our students’ efforts.

A thank you to Ms. Mullen for filming some productions for EHTv! Our families love seeing these concerts on television.

Our local Kiwanis took care of 11 families including parents for the holidays. A special Paul Hodson, John Cray, and Robert Adamo and all Kiwanis for thinking of our davenport families in need. Their kind efforts and time in caring for the needy families of Davenport is so greatly appreciated.

The Davenport tradition continued in which Davenport Staff provided for additional families in need with our Giving Tree. This year we assisted over 16 families. Our Davenport family; including all staff and the Primary Administrative Offices pulled together to purchase holiday gifts for the children. Hopefully, this made their holiday special! Many would not have celebrated Christmas without this help. This time of year highlights the importance of family and giving. Thank you Team Davenport!

Our Davenport School Counselors also recommended 17 students to Shop with a Cop through EHT Pals. Students who attended enjoyed special time at Walmart with a police officer selecting a present for the holiday.

Mrs. Errickson and Mrs. Caruso facilitated the instruction for many grade level character education assemblies and incentives. On 12/12, our Kindergarten and 1st grade had lessons at Primary and 3rd grade at Elementary. The counselors provided awards to students exemplifying stellar character and introduced the new character trait for the month of January. The Character Café was open on these days with lunch and special treats for all award recognition recipients.

On 12/15, our staff had a gathering for breakfast and bonding. They have these, Breakfast Buddies gatherings once a month to support each other and enjoy time together. Mrs. Marano, Renaissance and I hosted a Holiday Breakfast for our entire staff for the holidays on 12/22. We ordered trays from Golden Corral and brought in a variety of baked goods and treats. This was a great way to spend a few minutes unwinding before the holiday and after a whirlwind of events here throughout the past 2-3 weeks. Many staff participated in Secret Pals, giving each other small treats and special surprises throughout the month before the big reveal.

On December 21st we held our annual holiday parties. Teachers and room parents served treats and made crafts. There were great festivities where all enjoyed the spirit of the season and the togetherness that the holiday brings.
